Streamline Your Setup: Fime BTT Integration with PaytestProbe

As EMV L3 certification testing continues to evolve, testing teams are constantly looking for ways to simplify their environments while maintaining the flexibility required for certification and regression testing. With the latest firmware release from Fime (version 5.9.0, released May 1st, 2026), there is now a direct integration between the Fime Brand Test Tool (BTT) and the PaytestLab PaytestProbe. This new capability creates a more streamlined path to EMV L3 test automation by reducing hardware dependencies and allowing existing PaytestLab users to leverage their current infrastructure more effectively. 

What’s New in Fime BTT Version 5.9.0?

According to Fime’s latest release, users of the Test Integration Automation Module for Brand Test Tool version 5.9.0 can now configure a PaytestLab PaytestProbe as a hardware device for card simulation. For teams already using PaytestRobot and PaytestProbe within their payment testing environment, this creates a straightforward opportunity to expand into EMV L3 test automation without introducing additional hardware into their setup. 

Extending and Existing PaytestLab Environment

For many organizations already using PaytestLab solutions for day-to-day regression testing, the foundation is already in place. A typical setup may consist of PaytestHub, PaytestCore, PaytestRobot, PaytestMux, and PaytestProbe. With the introduction of this integration, only two additional components are required to enable automated EMV L3 test execution: the PaytestHub EMV L3 Player and the Fime BTT Automation Module.  

The first step is installing the Fime BTT software locally on PaytestCore. Once installed, the software becomes part of the existing testing ecosystem and can be orchestrated alongside other PaytestLab solutions. 

Reducing Hardware Complexity

Historically, executing Fime BTT certification tests required dedicated hardware such as SmartLink, SmartWave, or SmartConnect. These devices acted as intermediary components between the software and the payment terminal. With direct support for PaytestProbe, those additional devices are no longer required. 

The result is a cleaner and more efficient testing environment. Instead of introducing separate hardware specifically for certification testing, teams can utilize the same PaytestProbe already deployed within their automated payment testing infrastructure. This reduces hardware redundancy while simplifying setup, maintenance, and operational management. 

Understanding the Integration

The Fime BTT Software can currently connect directly to three different hardware options for EMV L3 certification testing: SmartWave and SmartLink, SmartConnect, or PaytestProbe. In each case, the BTT software communicates directly with the selected hardware, which is then used to execute the certification transactions.

This new option provides organizations with greater flexibility in how they deploy their certification environments while leveraging hardware that may already be present in their testing ecosystem.

Automating EMV L3 Certifications with PaytestProbe and PaytestHub

For teams already operating PaytestRobot and PaytestHub, the transition to automated EMV L3 certification is straightforward. A standard automation environment consists of PaytestHub, PaytestCore, PaytestProbe, and PaytestRobot. By adding the PaytestHub EMV L3 Player, Fime BTT Software, and the Fime BTT Automation Module, the same environment can be extended to support automated certification execution.  

The workflow begins with the installation of Fime BTT Software on PaytestCore. After configuring the required TSE file, users select the desired certification test cases directly within the PaytestHub EMV L3 Player. Test orchestration is handled through the PaytestAPI running on PaytestCore, coordinating communication between the various components.  

PaytestProbe, connected via the local network, receives the required test card data and executes contact, contactless, and magstripe transactions. During execution, logs, receipts, and transaction results are captured automatically and delivered back to both the PaytestHub EMV L3 Player and the Fime BTT Software for validation and certification purposes.

Bringing Certification and Regression Testing Closer Together

The integration between Fime BTT and PaytestProbe allows organizations to make greater use of the infrastructure they already have in place. Rather than maintaining separate environments for certification and regression testing, teams can leverage their existing PaytestLab ecosystem to support both activities. 

By reducing hardware requirements and simplifying integration, this new capability provides a practical path toward automated EMV L3 certification testing while maintaining the flexibility and scalability required for modern payment software development.
